Stronger evidence strengthening Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander children, families and communities.
Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak Centre of Excellence

We advocate for a child protection system that is based on evidence. By sharing our collective knowledge and experience, we can all make a positive impact on policies and practices to combat the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Queensland’s child protection system.

Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property Rights
We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have the right to own, control, protect and develop their ICIP in accordance with Article 31 of the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People. We use the term ICIP or Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property to refer to all aspects of Indigenous cultural heritage, including traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions, histories, places and recordings of that information. We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities have the right to be attributed for the use of their ICIP and have well developed principles that will govern all of our research and evaluation to ensure this is embedded.
